back into the woods
Hello to a bunch of new folks, glad you are here!
I just visited the home we're building (as a spec) at our Arrington Woods development for the first time in 2 months, since we were gone all summer.
Man, it is looking so dang good!
Every time I walk through this project, both the neighborhood we developed and the actual home we are building, I am just floored at the quality and scale of what we have been able to pull off.
90 acres of pristine rolling wooded hills, 16 of which are a historic nature preserve, and 11 home sites all nestled gently into the land. Transitional architecture program with lots of natural materials on our exteriors.
Texture is what makes things look good
Something that started as a sketch and a Pinterest board is now staring me in the face as I walk through.
I am hand in hand with my extremely bored young son who eked out a post-inspection ice cream, but only by the skin of his teeth.
Just barely holding on
All the inspiration for this home had lots and lots of wood, and we wanted to hit you with it as soon as you walk in.
Here's the kitchen and dining ceiling in poplar.
So proud
I have always said if the ceiling is interesting, there is just not much else you need to do in the space.
Most of the cased openings in the home are also trimmed in poplar.
Cased opening into the kitchen (this entire wall will also be covered in the same stone as exterior)
I am obsessed; it's going to look so good with the warm walnut floors.
Cased opening from bath vanity area to soaking tub area (covered in plastic)
Warm walnut floors
For kitchen counters and island, we found this marble; can't remember what it's called. It's a very interesting mix of gray and butter yellow; I had never seen anything like it, and it looks incredible with the cabinets.
Digging this milky look
Bathroom soaking tubs with a view. Travertine concrete trimmed with greenish limestone coping and cobblestone-style floor tile.
View of pool/courtyard: There is glazing all around most of the interior that looks out onto this pool; we wanted something long and skinny framed by landscaping. This courtyard will eventually be lush with native plants and small trees, ample gravel, and warm-toned pavers.
Our final grade will bring things up to the top edge of the pool.
Just imagine this, but landscaped
This is what you will see when you get out of bed in the morning
I could not have done this without tremendous partners.
That said, it is a reminder that if you want to do something strongly enough, you can make it happen. I really had no business being involved in this large of a project other than I was convinced it needed to exist and was willing to cast a vision.
