just enough to get by

I've been really sick over the last week. Some kind of very intense cold. Feeling a little better this morning, but it's still got me in its grip.

It's interesting how your priorities shift when you can do less: less energy, less focus, less sharpness. What I am going to eat and when I'm going to work out are typically things I think a lot about. Those thoughts are completely gone. Usually, I can work at night, but right now my brain is dead by 8:00 pm.

So that leaves just enough in the tank to scrape by and make sure everyone I'm working with is happy.

Yesterday, I spent the entire day with my partners getting ready for our grand opening party at Arrington Woods, our 90-acre wooded development. Even though it was a lot of manual labor, it was so good to be outside in the pristine fall weather.

We mounted a brass version of our logo on the gate, and while it looks good, there's absolutely zero contrast, so we're going to have to darken the letters or add a back plate.

Look closely and you can see the letters.

We laid down a ton of straw and seed, cleared brush out of a 1-acre area where the party is going to be, moved about 15 huge natural boulders to line our roadways, and hooked up some basic irrigation to all the newly planted trees along the front and gate areas.

The glamorous life of a developer!

Also, my backyard sauna is really coming along. The cedar shake looks unbelievably good —definitely the right choice. We are going with two Pill Wall Lights from Trea Lighting for the exterior. Just got these in the mail last night —they are so cool and feel very substantial. I wanted something a little nautical.

We are working with Concrete Collaborative on the sauna floor and just got our tile in. I chose the Sage Scarpa Terrazzo. I remember first seeing this kind of mosaic terrazzo floor years ago and promising myself I'd find a way to do it.

A lot of things that got saved on Pinterest Boards years ago are finally happening right in front of my eyes. Grateful.
